Sheet metal straightening machine

To cope with a variety of customer problems, Coiltech has developed a range of more than 80 straightening machines for strips with thicknesses from 0.05 mm to 10 mm, widths up to 2,000 mm and cross-sections up to 8,000 mm2. Maximum straightening speed is up to 50 m/min as standard. Accurate identification of the range of materials to be straightened and the intended degree of straightening will allow the selection of key design parameters: number, diameter, roller coating and roller adjustment system.

What accessories are worth choosing in the feeder line and why?

Functionality

Easy adjustment of the straightener.

As standard, with one glance at the large dial, the operator can see his penetration settings with an accuracy of 1/10 mm. With motorized penetration control, all straightening parameters can be stored in the part program accessible from the feeder terminal. It will also be possible to automatically change the straightening parameters depending on the diameter of the coil. A correction roller, can be installed on the output side of the straightening machine to allow correction of coils unwound from underneath.

Simplified tape insertion.

All Coiltech straighteners, are supplied in red with an adjustable side sheet guide on the input side and support rollers on the input and output sides. As an option, they can be equipped with a thread puller with 1, 3 or 4 movements (reinforced for thick sheets) and a symmetrical sheet guide adjustable by hand or by motor.

Loop control.

If a loop line is selected, loop management is provided by a special control device connected to the straightening machine. This device must be adapted to the type of material being unwound. All Coiltech straightening machines, are supplied with a loop control device. The delivery also includes belt tension and end of belt detection. As standard or optional, depending on the model, information can also be collected with an ultrasonic sensor that provides non-contact measurement of the vertical position of the strip. Line speed can be adjusted more efficiently and accurately, preventing rectifier downtime. When a loop is provided between the flushing unit and the rectifier, the loop control will control the variable speed distribution.

Lightweight articulating table.

To make it easier to move new sheet metal from the straightener to the feeder, we offer an optional series of straight or articulated threading tables. The table is linked to the straightening machine’s variable geometry output basket. Depending on the application, the table will be lightweight with pneumatic control or reinforced and hydraulically controlled. For the most demanding applications, Coiltech offers an architecture with two articulated tables: one mounted on the straightener and the other on the feeder. The movement of the tables is servo-controlled by the downward movement of the sheet metal.

Advantages

Minimum maintenance.

Maintenance of the straightener is reduced by using bearings with sealed for life or centralized lubrication. Where aesthetically pleasing materials are used, regular cleaning of the straightener rollers is necessary. Coiltech offers a “crocodile” head opening option, controlled by pneumatic or hydraulic depending on the model. In cradle-type straighteners, the excess stroke is sufficient to allow easy cleaning of the rollers.

Quick changeover of the straightening machine.

The “PITSTOP” configuration allows the machine to enter and rewind the belt without manual intervention and automatically adjust all machine parameters when selecting parts from the production list menu. In combination with the Coiltech unwinder and feeder, the speed of the straightening machine is automatically adjusted to the press speed and material feed rate.

For all materials.

Coiltech straighteners can be equipped to handle metals with high yield strength or unwind delicate materials (pre-painted, copper, mirror finish aluminum). The choice of straightening machine model is the result of a complex compromise, between the range of operation required (thickness of the material) and the intended flatness and cost of the equipment we want to use for this.

Geometry.

The geometry of the equipment, particularly the parallelism of the rollers, is essential to achieve optimal straightening. The frames, constructed of cast iron, are machined on precision machining centers. The rollers are guided by low-backlash needle bearings and restrained laterally by thrust needle bearings or ball bearings. This gives Coiltech the opportunity to become the leading manufacturer of these machines in Europe.

Accessory equipment

The right drives

The maximum power actually transferred to the belt determines the performance of the rectifier. All straighteners have large-size drive units, controlled by a variable-speed drive and equipped with a load indicator. In conventional units, only the lower rollers are powered, while in the highest-capacity units all rollers are powered. The complement of rollers is adapted to the materials being processed. As standard, they are ground to Ra 0.4, but they can also be chrome plated, superfused, ground, polyurethane coated.

Rollers with high specifications

We pay special attention to the production of rollers that are hardened, ground and drilled to guarantee maximum impact strength and 60 HRC hardness at a depth of 1.5 mm. For units designed for thick or extra-wide materials, all rollers are supported by 1 to 7 rows of spare-support rollers, depending on the width.

Ergonomic control

All of the straightener’s controls and accessories, are grouped together at a single point. Depending on the specific direction of belt travel, the panel and penetration adjustment indicators, will be positioned on the operator’s side. The latter, can use a powerful and ergonomic remote control to facilitate belt insertion operations. The unwinder controls can also be grouped together in the straightener’s controller.

Straightening machines with independent roll control

These have 5 to 11 straightening rollers with diameters ranging from 40 mm to 100 mm, depending on the model. This is the most versatile design. Penetration is adjustable on 2, 3 or 5 rollers. This allows you to get the best setting for each material used.

Rocker-type straighteners

They are very suitable for wide coils. They have 9 to 21 rectifier rolls with diameters ranging from 30 mm to 100 mm, depending on the model. This design is less versatile, as it offers only 2 adjustment points. However, it allows you to install a large number of rectifier rollers to have a wider range of applications.

2 or 4 drive rollers

Located at the entrance of the straightening machine, they allow the belt to be inserted. All Coiltech straightening machines, are equipped with drive rollers on the input side with pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder release. Independent roller straightening machines, are equipped with drive rollers on the output side of the straightener as standard. They make it easier to adjust the machine when working with delicate or aesthetic finishing materials.

Straighteners for thin or magnetic strips

These straighteners are designed for straightening thin materials (from 0.15 mm upwards). Very good straightening quality is provided by a large number of small-diameter straightening rollers held in a cradle adjustable by hand wheels. In some models, the straightening rollers are mounted in removable cassettes to facilitate cleaning. A judicious selection of accessories and options will have a major impact on production turnaround time and operator safety.
