Moving shear pipe cutting is the ideal solution for the raw pipe cutting industry. Utilizing the speed and precision of our double-edge shear cutting head and Universal Controls Group’s proprietary UTRAK HavenTrak™ length control system, it delivers accurate, high-quality cuts on the fly, leaving no pits. This innovative approach provides improved productivity and accuracy increased to 220 feet per minute.
Cutting pipes with HavenTrak mobile shears
Haven Manufacturing, as a manufacturer of double blade shear technology, offers a family of products ideally suited to meet the above challenges. Haven’s unique double-blade cutters are designed to automatically and quickly cut round, square and irregularly shaped pipes and reach the appropriate lengths. Double-blade cutting is a series of two mechanically synchronized steps, referred to as “notching and shearing.” First, a horizontal “nick” blade cuts a flat groove in the top of the tube. Second, a vertical “shear” blade pierces this groove and cuts through the tube. Additional operations include a system to load the newly machined tubing and a feeder system that moves the tubing to the stop mechanism. Haven’s target mechanism uses a motorized pull screw to adjust the length of the parts being cut, allowing quick transition to a new production run requiring different cutting lengths. A clamping matrix, designed and manufactured for a specific pipe shape, secures the pipe to prevent damage and maintain tight length tolerances. A double-acting hydraulic cylinder provides the die clamping function, and an additional cylinder controls the stroke of the cutting motion. This unique system adjusts by applying low pressure for thin-walled pipes and then switching to high pressure for pipes with greater wall thickness. Since cutting double-blade shear pipe is a two-step process, a mechanical linkage keeps the horizontal blade away from the vertical blade. The horizontal cut removes some of the pipe’s outer material, preventing it from being deformed by the downward-directed force of the vertical cut. The vertical blade then splits the pipe, entering through a notch at the top and cutting through the pipe to the end. Haven’s dual blade system uses world-renowned control systems and is easy to set up and operate. A touchscreen display and intuitive menus allow commands to be executed and the controller to be easily configured.
